Another thousand down. I've decided to try multiple-POV chapters in this fic, which is a technique I haven't employed since my SLS days. We'll see how it goes.
I stumbled across a pair of Haldir/OFC fics last night. They weren't standards by which all others should be measured, and there were minor technical flaws, but I've read far worse and written more blatant Sues, and it was clear that the writer was having fun. The smut was occasionally overwrought, and the writer handwaved time jumps and the boring minutiae of life to get to the angst and romance and sex, but it was nice to see elves with senses of love, desire, familial bonds, fear, and insecurity. Haldir sometimes veered into excessive, dewy-eyed weepiness, and I can't see Galadriel matchmaking with her marchwarden and a human girl who's been there for less than a day and entrusting her to be his emotional anchor while he goes through a wrenching, life-threatening ritual to confront long-ignored demons, but what can I say? It was a guilty-pleasure read, the LOTR equivalent of a Harlequin romance from the airport bookstore. If you're interested, then Google Haldir's Therapy and its thrilling, angsty sequel, Haldir's Redemption by Ranger.
