hpgen100 and the prompt, "Substitute".
Faux fur and fake nails and synthetic hair made from polyester and cotton blends. Porcelain crowns and capped teeth and ceramic choppers. Breasts made of silicone and penises made of rubber and gelatin. Glass eyes like Mad-Eye used to wear, and wooden legs. Fake butter and fake eggs and fake sugar and even a fake Mad-Eye Moody, once an upon an accursed time. There is, it seems, a substitute for everything.
But there is no replacement for an only son, and so when the Ministry sends Amos Diggory a plaque honoring his son's memory and posthumously awards his dead boy a medal of valor, he blasts it to smithereens on the front stoop of his sepulchral cottage with no Cedric to make it a home, and feels not the slightest bit of regret.
