Because I'm doing well in Spanish and German on Duolingo, I decided to try out the other languages. I like French, but there seems to be no discernible difference in the pronunciations of the various verb conjugations or adjectival endings. "Tu manges" and ""Il mange" sound virtually identical, as do "La robe" and "les robes". There's a lot of squinting suspiciously as if that will control the clarity of my headphones, but I've made it to level five.
Portuguese can go fuck itself.
I took a semester of Italian, so I've enjoyed revisiting that. I'd love to see an eventual Russian course. I took a semester of that in college, too, and while I had no trouble understanding the instructor and following his commands, the Cyrillic alphabet confounded me, and I could neither read nor write it. I'd like to see if my fortunes in that regard would improve with a virtual keyboard to help me write and understand the various letters.
After a huge flurry over the past few days, my writing has sputtered to a stop again. I'm not terribly fussed about it, truth be told. I should probably post the hundred thousand words of fic I've stashed in various places, but meh.
