Trying to Listen to My Better Angels

Livejournal is once again experiencing a DDoS attack by Russian political hackers attempting to stifle legitimate political discourse. It's aggravating, but I hope that LJ won't cave to the inevitable whinging masses who would happily throw the political dissidents' right to freedom of expression by the wayside if it meant that they could get back to writing their porn of choice. Let it be known that I, too, would like to get back to my porn and my routine of chatting with friends, and I will likely chafe and grump if the attack drags on for weeks or months, but I would like to hope that I am not so shallow as to ignore the basic rights of others so that I can maintain my privilege of perving over Rammstein photos and reading Dean/Castiel slash of varying quality.

I haven't heard from an LJ friend in over a week, though, and if I don't see some sign of life soon, I'm going to email her. She's been known to take brief sabbaticals before, and I don't want to disturb her if she's trying to avoid the lure of the Internet crackpipe, but the pessimist in me is convinced that she's been hit by a truck on one of her hikes and is now an amnesiac, lying in some hospital while the police try to determine her identity, or is lying at the bottom of a well with a broken leg and a fractured skull, with no food and no one looking for her. It's ludicrous because she's not a hermit with no friends, and people would most certainly be looking for her, but I can't help it.

This is what happens when you watch too many disaster movies or survival horror flicks.
