LJ is apparently experiencing odd seizures after a server reboot, and so I'm not sure this will post. We're experiencing a massive heatwave here in the South, with temperatures soaring into the hundreds. My body doesn't handle prolonged exposure to extreme heat well, and so I plan to stay indoors with the ceiling fans at full bore until the heat breaks. I have an air conditioner, but to leave it on for twenty-four hours would be to commit financial suicide, and with another Rammstein odyssey on the horizon, I need every farthing.

Speaking of odysseys, don't tell Roomie(who will read this anyway), but that fabled trip to Germany about which I have been dreaming for years is growing firmer and firmer in my mind. It would take four or five years to get that large of a house in order and secure the necessary funds, and that assumes that the U.S. government, which is so busily looking for ways to help its richest citizens avoid a minor tax increase, doesn't withhold my pittance as leverage in a party pissing contest between the Democrats and Republicans or halve it permanently to appease those low-rung, hand-to-mouth Americans who are convinced they're one lucky break away from joining the wealthy elite. It would require a stupefying amount of patience and research and probable coordination with a travel planner who specializes in disability travel. It would also require traveler's insurance and at least a working knowledge of medical German so that if I collapse in the street and am ferried to a hospital, they don't hear my slurred speech and assume I'm either drunk or having a stroke or see my twitching limbs and assume I'm seizing. It would also require researching the viability of both the U- and S-bahn train systems and the conquest of my fear of flying, but I'm just going to have to bite the bullet there.

Then there's the matter of where to go. Berlin is a given, but I've also heard good things about Koeln from perusing disabled travel forums. No, not everything is accessible, but the locals are willing to help if you are polite and explain what you need. The Rammstein/Richard fangirl in me wants to see Schwerin, but that depends entirely on how feasible it is from an accessibility standpoint and what sites are available. I want to see a few Schlosses, even if I can't go inside them, and I want to try my first bratwurst and stuff myself stupid with chocolate and look at the parks and arboretums and the murals and visit open-air markets. I have no interest in beer. I would like to gape at the Alps.

Everything is still in the nascent stages at the moment, and I still have to sort through the jumble and see what's wishful thinking and what's doable and let Roomie adjust to the idea of traveling so far abroad, and vent his fears, but I'm hoping to have the bones of a plan in place by year's end so that I can start the heavy research and preparation.

And just because I feel like saying it again: Fuck you, U.S. government, for being willing to starve the poor, sick, and elderly while millionaires, billionaires, and the world's richest concern trolls dick-joust over a tax increase on the country's wealthiest citizens. Fuck you sideways for being willing to let me starve because some dickbag in the Hamptons doesn't think I deserve to eat the crumbs from his floor.
