Rammstein has announced that they will play one US date in New York City on December 11. I am, of course, thrilled that they've managed one US show, as it's one more than anyone expected at this point. I have the money for tickets; I've been scrimping and eating nauseating amounts of soup and canned chili for eleven months. The challenge will be getting my grubby mitts on them. Every attention-starved Rammfan in the country is going to be dogfighting for the limited number of tickets, and I live two hours from the nearest Ticketmaster outlet/box office. I can't order online because I don't have a credit card, and I'm leery of using my debit card over the Internet. Plus, when buying tickets for handicapped seating, it's better to go in person, the better to argue with the bovine ticket agent that no, you can't fucking make do with general admission because you are really quite fond of your damn teeth, and you don't want to pay $150 to watch asses and elbows all night. If I wanted to just listen to Rammstein, I'd stay home and put on a CD.

I am disappointed that they've chosen to perform only one show here. After all that wrangling with red tape, one is all they could come up with? They're playing two in Mexico, a country in the throes of massive civil unrest and a notoriously corrupt government cowed by drug lords and beset by guerrillas and indigenous dissidents. Why can't they put on six shows in the US? Or ten? Why fill out all that paperwork for one show? I can only guess that this is the floater show Richard alluded to in his interview in Quebec; maybe they're gauging fannish interest, and if MSG sells out, then they'll consider adding dates.

This, however, is hilarious:

The band hopes in the process to fulfill the wishes of the many thousands of U.S. fans who have longed to see Rammstein live once more after 10 years away from the land of amber waves of grain."

AHAHAHA! Do they really think they have only "thousands" of fans that have been waiting for them? For Christ's sake, their latest album debuted at number 13 and sold 22,000 copies its first week with no advertising or promotion save the fannish grapevine. Do they really think one date is going cover it? It's not even going to put a dent in the number of people who are waiting for them. Goddamn, but their management is terminally oblivious.
