Apparently, John Winchester's journal has been published and will be released on Tuesday, February 3rd. And yes, I will be plunking down the cash if I can find it because I'm eager to see if John was as big a douchebag as I suspect, and because I have no desire to be bludgeoned about the head and face with the righteous indignation of an SPN fanit because I failed to incorporate the information provided on page 237, paragraph 3. I've already been roundly and huffily castigated for not religiously studying the journal fragments provided on the official website and can only imagine the savage opprobrium that awaits me should I not take heed of this new resource. It's a matter of fannish self-preservation as well as fangirlish curiosity.

Random Fannish Fact: Long before spoilers about a third Winchester sibling began to surface, I'd toyed with the idea of writing a fic about a Winchester sister who'd been born after Dean but before Sam, and who would've been two at the time of the infamous fire. Because the sister was disabled(yes, I know, dammit, but I'm writing what I know, and I don't have the foggiest idea how able girls think), John left her with Missouri Moseley. She and Bobby Singer were the only folks who knew about her, until John reveals her to Dean when Dean is sixteen. For some reason(I hadn't figured that out yet), John never told Sam. Dean didn't, either, because frankly, he liked having someone all to himself. Once Dean makes the deal for Sam's soul in S3, he had no choice, but to let Sam in on his little secret, and Sam is forced to confront just how far his father's obsession with hunting YED went. With time running out for Dean, Sam and the gimpy sis, who has zero l33t hunting skills but a buttload of brains, team up to save Dean, while Dean finds a way to say goodbye.

I never wrote it, though, because I was keenly aware of how quickly any third sibling, particularly a sister, would be derided as a Sue, and besides, I was up to my ass in ideas for genfic. So, I let it go. Now I feel vindicated. I still won't write it, however, because my current backlog of viable plotbunnies would make baby Jesus cry.
