Pika, Pika, Pika-What The Hell Have They Done to You?

My teeth are still a disaster. I am at my wit's end.

Watching ProJARED's follower count plummet like a severed ballsack over a sacrificial precipice is mesmerizing. Maybe he shouldn't have solicited nudes from underage fans and sent them in kind. I have no doubt some of the rats will return once the initial stench of Internet outrage dissipates because that's how people work, but for now, it's immensely satisfying.

I went to see Detective Pikachu this afternoon. The character designs are outrageously adorable, and the idea of humans and Pokemon living together in harmony is appealing and offers so many world-building opportunities, but the movie capitalizes on none of them, and the plot is an incoherent mess that features Daddy issues and everyone's favorite moldering trope, The Bitter Cripple. Oh, huzzah! But because this is Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool is hot right now, we need quippy one-liners and droll sarcasm, preferably interspersed throughout the film's angstiest moments. Because making people feel things besides mindless, guffawing amusement is so last decade.

I can't say hard pass because Justice Smith and Pikachu had excellent chemistry, but it's a rental at best. I bet fic writers could do wonders with it, though, and I might have to poke my head into AO3 to see if anyone bothers to take up the challenge of plugging the myriad holes in the film's underlying fabric.
