I'm Not Melting, But That Might Be a Relief

I aten't dead, nor have I forgotten the 5 Things meme I snaffled from caecus_parvulus. The heat, which has been stifling, has made me very, very tired, and I've been distracted and stressed by the recently-concluded Mommysar summit. My mother leaves tomorrow morning, but the heat is expected to persist until Tuesday. The heat can be combatted by the air conditioning and plenty of water, so I hope to resume my normal routine, with a brief interruption for the Fourth of July and its trappings of hamburgers and hot dogs.

The machinery for the rental agreement is in motion, though I doubt I'll be able to get anything set until after the Fourth, when the banks and the trustees and the bean counters come back from their holidays. Being so hands-on and proactive is quite daunting for someone trained to be docile and passive, but it is also freeing to know that I'm not beholden to the whims of others, no matter how well-intentioned they might be, that any consequences visited upon me have been earned, be they good or ill. I could be hit by a garbage truck tomorrow, or be abducted by aliens fascinated by my anomalous human form, but at least I won't be blindsided by fiats from an ever-changing On High and forced to live life by committee.

I'm still not telling anyone about my Berlin trip until I've cleared customs in Berlin.

Totally random thought: I've never bought a lottery ticket, but sometimes, I wonder what would happen if I did. Even if I only won one of the smaller jackpots and not the Powerball Megamillions, one hundred thousand dollars would do nicely for a trip to Europe.
