Today marks my 1200th post on LJ, which is 1,100 more than I thought I'd ever make. Since I've reached this milestone through four years of blogging, I decided to pose a few LJ-related questions. I don't need names, though you are welcome to provide them. I just want to know how many of my flisters recognize certain circumstances or emotions.
1. Have you ever had someone friend you, visited their LJ, and decided that common fandom interest or not, they were not the sort of person whose entries you want to read?
2. Have you ever secretly wished your flist was bigger?
3. Do you have people on your flist who occasionally inspire in you a vague, burning desire to choke the shit out of them? This usually happens because said person has fixated on a topic ad nauseam. Topics can include the sheer genius of their children, the unrelenting misery of their existence, or the OMG meanness of the Internet? Other irritants that can inspire you to take up virtual arms are pity-whoring or using the resources of a given flist as a one-stop charity shop.
Please note that this query does not include individuals in true need like
sapphsmum, but refers to incidents such as Charitygate and Laptopgate, and those who post requests for free hookups on a constant basis with no thought of ever returning the favor. Seasonal fandom events like Christmas whiparounds and exchanges are also exempt.
4. Has anyone on your flist ever breached the implicit trust of the flock and posted filtered posts to a wank or mock community; have they ever turned up in said wank to tell the comm what a whiny emo douche/attention-whore/whackjob you are?
5. Lastly, given the breadth of your experiences on LJ and with blogging in general, do you think it brings us together with the universality of human experience or drives us apart by reducing us to pixels on a screen and stripping us of our essential humanity?
Because I don't want anyone to get hurt should names be mentioned, comments will be screened. If anyone is interested in the results, I'll be happy to post the numbers at the end of 14 days.
