No good deed goes unpunished. I've known that axiom since I was wee, and life has proven it time and again. I should have known better, but I was and am a stupid bleeding heart.

Well, I know now, and I won't make that mistake again.

For future reference, if any of you disagree with me, please say so in a comment to the entry in question or in an email. I will be glad to either apologize or defend my position. But don't post a passive-aggressive titfit in your offsite blog, flinging poo at me and modeling your wirehair shirt.

The only way to avoid confrontation in fandom is to keep your opinions to yourself. The moment you voice those opinions, you open yourself to the probability of disagreement, some of it vociferous and savagely unkind. If you cannot cope with the stresses of human discourse, the Internet is not for you. Especially not fandom.

What prompted this PSA to the choir? This exchange concerning the exact nature of OFCs and possible reasons for lack of fannish interest in a niche story. Apparently, pointing out that Angie Watson is not an OFC and observing that most folks have a hard time suspending disbelief when it comes to Flack dating a repeat offender with no respect for his office is croool, do you hear?

At no point did I say she couldn't or shouldn't write it. I just pointed out that few fen were likely to read it.

That was enough to tee her off, and she derided the implausibility of my own fic. Well, duh. And you know what? It's not burning down the fandom, either. It's niche, and that's the way it is. So I don't understand why she thinks I'm denying the utter crackedness of my work. I'm not. So I fail to see the hypocrisy she obviously senses when I point out that Angie doesn't torque fandom's screws.

And I don't even know why I wasted time typing this.

ETA: The entry that prompted this one is on an offsite blogging service, and as she uses it as a refuge, I am not comfortable linking to it or reproducing it.
