There is little to report from my end of the fort. I've been going to class and ficcing and sleeping, but not much else. There are only 2 weeks of class left, and then the monkey will be off my back. Huzzah! As soon as my final goes to the professor on the 14th, I'm putting my brain into academic neutral and playing Mario Tennis for a few days.
On the ficcing front, did you know that it is almost impossible to find biographical information on CSI: New York characters? CBS.com has tidy little blurbs, but no birthdates. Flack could be twenty-seven or thirty-seven. I did learn, however, that he was born in Yonkers, which means a slight geographical rewrite for my one-shot, but nothing that might prove fatal to the premise.
I am surprised at the paucity of canonical information on the CSI characters. The characters in HP fen have been analyzed, dissected, and categorized ad nauseam, to the point that one can predict, with reasonable and alarming accuracy, what they have for breakfast. Working with such detailed information has spoiled me, I'm afraid.
On the other hand, the lack of definite knowledge is extremely liberating. I'm free to write whatever I want as long as I remember that Flack came from a long line of decorated police officers, has issues with his father that are as yet unexplained, and had to bust his former mentor for obstruction of justice. The playing field is untrammeled and all but pristine.
I can say, for instance, that he was married once, or that he's been pining for the hot dog vendor on 34th street for six years. I can say he has younger siblings after whom he looks. or that he isn't averse to brass knuckles when a perp gets lippy. I can say his parents have been pressing him to find a girl, settle down, and start the next generation of Flacks. It's all good, and I love it. It will be interesting to see if this fandom is more tolerant of OCs, or if they're maligned for interfering with the staggering proliferation of hawt, gay bumsex.
Has anyone heard from
pandora_nervosa lately? Is she wrangling with Crohn's again?
