Today was a quiet day. Summer terms in the complex are markedly different than the spring and fall semesters. The parking lots are all but deserted, and the buses run mostly on time and aren't packed to the roof. They do, however, acquire that too-many-people-in-one space smell if the driver is stingy with the AC, a nose-wrinkling, piquant, vegetable and raw meat reek.

Fortunately, I had no need to board the bus today, and so watched television and ficced. I don't know why, but I find myself addicted to the ESPN shows aired between 4 and 6PM-Cold Pizza, Jim Rome Is Burning, Around the Horn, and PTI. Each day when my roomie turns them on, I'll stop what I'm doing and roll into the living room to watch.

It should be noted that none of these programs has any redeeming qualities. The hosts and guests are obnoxious windbags impressed with their own credentials, and the pontifications they dispense are nothing I couldn't deliver after reading the local sports pages. In fact, they are all singularly obsessed with outshouting each other, as though volume will substitute for reasoned argument. They mug and posture and use hip lingo that has no business being spoken by anyone not young enough to believe that MTV is the arbiter of coolness. The Around the Horn crew in particular exemplify empty bombast and shameless self-aggrandizement. Only the Brown shoe polishes with which Sportscenter anchor Dan Patrick dyes his hair is more offensive.

And yet, there I sit, mesmerized by the juvenile pissing contests. It's fandom flamewars televised, and it's brilliant.

In other news, House of Bad Faith will make its debut here tomorrow(Yay! At last, a deadline I'll meet).

Aside from that, here are my plans for the weekend:
